The OU Writing Center is a pedagogical service that supports OU undergraduate and graduate students as well as members of the Norman/OKC community. The primary goal of our services is to help writers learn something they can use in the future.
Our goal is to provide support for all writers in the University of Oklahoma community. The Writing Center Staff is committed to:
Please note that we work diligently to support your development as a writer, and therefore, we are neither a proofreading nor grading service.
The OU Writing Center welcomes all writers and, in accordance with University policies, does not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability. We consider difference to be a seed for learning and writing.
The Writing Center offers consultations, events, workshops, writing groups, and more for all OU students.
Join us during Week 1 for three Write Start writing retreats to get your semester off to the "write" start! These come-and-go events will run Tuesday, 8/26, Wednesday, 8/27, and Thursday, 8/29, from 9:00am - 3:00pm in Wagner 280. Come for the morning, the afternoon, all day, or for an hour-- whatever your schedule allows. Food will be provided, and information can be found on OU Engage.
For Fall 2025, consultations will begin during Week 3 of the semester-- September 8, 2025. The Writing Center is open 6 days a week for both in person and virtual appointments.
Writers are welcome to utilize the Writing Center's space anytime we are open as a space to write. We have couches and armchairs, as well as traditional tables, and plenty of outlets.
Generally, the Writing Center is open in Wagner 280 Monday through Friday from 9am to 5pm. Check out Hours page and social media for the most up-to-date information on Center closures.
The Writing Center seeks to offer services and spaces that are accessible to all writers. If you have questions about accessibility and accommodations, please contact the Writing Center via email, telephone, or in person.
"From a disabled students perspective, the consultant always listens with compassion and empathy to my writing assignment specifics, challenges, and hopes for accomplishment. They are pleasant to work with and give constructive feedback about the craft along with positive encouragement. Thanks!"
Need help scheduling an appointment? Have a question about a program or camp? Want information about bringing WC programming to your classroom? Whatever the question is, don't hesitate to reach out to the Writing Center's staff.
