Program Description

The Bachelor's in Information Studies (BAIS) is an applied Information Technology and Data Science degree that teaches students how to design and build IT and Data solutions with a user-centered approach. Graduates will have the skills to analyze users' information problems, provide solutions, and create user-friendly information systems.

Students in the program focus on the relationship between information, people, and technology in a wide-variety of courses covering web technologies, databases, data analytics, user-centered system analysis and design, information architecture, and information literacy. Tools students apply in classes include PHP, MySQL, HTML5, JavaScript, Python, R, CSS, and more.

Degree Options

The Information Studies degree can be completed online from anywhere in the world.  It is an interdisciplinary degree, comprising courses from throughout the College of Arts and Sciences and other Colleges across campus.

An accelerated bachelor’s program is available to facilitate the completion of the BAIS and the MLIS in an abbreviated time frame.

Information Studies graduates work as IT project managers, software implementation specialists, IT specialists, network administrators, systems analysts, software programmers, website designers and developers, and documents and records managers. Types of companies and departments that employ BAIS graduates include: Information Technology, Communications, Petroleum, Financial Management, and Data Research.
