Academics & Resources

Undergraduate Program

Students interested in an academic concentration in classical archaeology can pursue either a concentration (Classics: Classical Archaeology) or a minor in Classical Archaeology.

A variety of courses are offered in Mediterranean art and archaeology by the Department of Classics and Letters, but courses in other disciplines can also be taken to partially fulfill these degree requirements. To support skills learning and practical experience, fieldwork, museum or other high impact learning practices can be substituted for up to two classes in the concentration.

Faculty are very involved in mentoring undergraduates in these degrees, and organize sessions on fieldwork and study abroad opportunities and graduate school options.

Fieldwork Opportunities

Student engagement and support is a top CMAH priority.  The Center is a sponsor of archaeological fieldwork opportunities, not least projects directed by OU faculty. Recent excavations near Ficulle (Umbria, Italy) have involved numerous undergraduates, several of whom have gone on to pursue graduate degrees or paid employment in North American archaeology.  These opportunities are designed to be as accessible to all as possible.
