Rachelle Kuehl is an Assistant Professor of Literacy/Reading Education in the Jeannine Rainbolt College of Education at the University of Oklahoma. She teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in the literacy and early childhood education programs. In 2025, Dr. Kuehl received the Early Career Award from the Children’s Literature Assembly of the National Council of Teachers of English for her contributions to the field of children’s literature scholarship. As a 2022 National Academy of Education/Spencer Foundation postdoctoral fellow, she conducted qualitative research on the ways rural Appalachian teachers use literature to launch discussions of race in their classrooms. Dr. Kuehl’s articles have appeared in journals such as The Journal of Children’s Literature, Journal of Literacy Research, Research in the Teaching of English, The Reading Teacher, English Journal, Theory & Practice in Rural Education, Journal of Advanced Academics, and Reading Horizons.
