Shopping Center Groups, Members, and Center Assignment

This list is meant to supplement the shopping center assignment handout and suggestions information. Below are listed the centers and group members. Elected leaders of each group are posted in bold if known by the close of Wednesday's class. Those listed in italics were absent from class and assigned. It is the responsibility of those absent to contact the other members and coordinate activities with their respective groups. Not being present in class is not a valid reason for not attempting contact. Check the OU student directory and/or class roster page for telephone numbers and email addresses, respectively, in reaching your colleagues. Remember, all work must be essentially completed by Wednesday's (November 12) meeting for a progress report. Before group presentations, I will announce the order of reports beginning on Friday, 14 November. If you are not listed in any group, contact me immediately for assignment.

Further Notes:

  1. With the exceptions listed below, only focus on the shopping center. You do not need to evaluate both sides of the street unless noted below.
  2. Campus Corner group: Although Campus Corner may be larger than the definition given above, focus on these dimensions, given the time frame involved.
  3. Corner of Main Street and 24th Avenue NW group: Focus only on the firms located adjacent to Buy for Less and the smaller shops around CiCi's Pizza and the Red Horse Cafe. For purposes of this assignment, do not be concerned with the new center located on the immediate corner of Main and 24th (Norman Cellular and Subway). Also, do not evaluate the shops in Hourly Photo, Mercury Post and Parcel, and the Driver's License Bureau complex.
  4. Normandy Creek group: Only evaluate the firms in the Hastings - Furr's - Texas Optical complex. You do not have to extend analysis to the enclave of Little Caesar's, although it should be included in your map.
  5. Old CBD group: Remember to map and evaluate both sides of Main Street.
  6. 24th Avenue NW at hard curve north to Robinson: This area will be somewhat different than the other study sites. You may wish to consult with the planning dept. and/or census data to determine the role of these firms for both the immediate area and whole city.
