Supporter Information

Tomorrow's possibilities start today.

You’re an important part of your student’s OU journey. From orientation to graduation, your support makes a real difference in their success. This page is here to help you feel prepared and confident as your student takes this next step. You’ll find helpful resources for both you and your student, including important OU terms to know and information about key offices across campus. We’ve gathered everything in one place to support you and your student throughout their time at the University of Oklahoma.

Next Steps After NSO

In the coming weeks, your student will take several important steps to get ready for campus. Encourage your student to check their OU email regularly so they don’t miss any important information or deadlines.

Get ready for Camp Crimson

  • Camp Crimson is OU’s official 5-day orientation experience that gives students the opportunity to connect with their new OU community. Camp Crimson is packed with activities to help students get to know campus, learn about OU’s history and traditions, and complete first-year trainings. Learn more at go2.ou.edu/camp-crimson.

Purchase a Parking Permit

  • Students who plan to bring a vehicle to campus will need to secure a parking permit through OU Parking Services at ou.edu/parking.

Register with the Accessibility and Disability Resource Center (ADRC)

  • Students who may need academic, housing, or dining accommodations should fill out the application for accommodations at ou.edu/adrc.

Contact the Degree-Granting College for Scheduling Questions

  • If your student has questions about their class schedule, they can reach out directly to their degree-granting college. Contact information is available on the New Sooner Orientation website at ou.edu/newsooner/contact.

Prepare for Move-In

  • Students will receive details about their assigned move-in date, time, and check‑in process to their OU email in July. Now is a great time to review what to pack and plan travel or lodging if family members will be helping.

Key Members of Your Student's Team

Residence Life Coordinator

While living on campus, each student is provided with a Residence Life Coordinator (RLC). This is a campus leader who lives in the residence halls and is trained to support their assigned residents. An RLC's work includes being a resource and mentor for residents, completing intentional interactions, and hosting events. These leaders play a crucial role in building community and ensuring the safety and well-being of students.

Academic Advisor

An Academic Advisor guides students in efficiently completing their education journey within their degree-granting college. These advisors consider dual enrollment, AP/IB/CLEP credits, and more to tailor personalized schedules for your student. Students meet with their advisor each semester before enrolling in courses and review their degree checksheet, a form that outlines the courses needed to achieve a degree from OU.

Supporter FAQ

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA) is a federal law protecting the privacy of student educational records. Under FERPA, students who are either (a) 18 or older or (b) who attend a school beyond the high school level have certain rights over information in their educational record. Parents do not automatically have FERPA rights to access information on students who meet either requirement; however, they may provide documentation that the student is their dependent in order to access their student's records. FERPA applies to students who are accepted and attend an institution, and it permits the institution to disclose directory information. You can access your student’s unofficial transcript, midterm, and final grades by term, profile, and weekly schedule if your student chooses to add you as a proxy in the FERPA Proxy Management System

There's no charge and your payment is posted to your student's account the same day. Service charges and late penalties will not be removed due to late or nonpayment.

You must be listed as an authorized user in your student’s One account. To authorize a user, your student will log into one.ou.edu, navigate to the “Financial” section, and select “Add authorized users.” Your student will enter your email address and choose permissions, such as view billing statements, 1098-T tax statements, and payment history. The authorized user will receive two emails with follow-up instructions.
