We are excited to invite proposals for AI-focused summer pilot projects that aim to expand and refine existing AI-empowered (e.g, LLM, deep learning, machine learning) teaching, training, research, or creative efforts to have a broader impact across the university. We also seek proposals focused on best practices for governance, policy development, oversight, and monitoring functions. Selected projects will receive up to $10,000 in funding and run over a three-month summer period. Final deliverables are due by August 30, 2025, with community engagement activities during the Fall semester.
This opportunity is intended for OU faculty and staff who are already engaged with AI in some capacity—whether through teaching, research, or tool development—and are ready to take their work to the next level and share it more broadly across campus. Students are not eligible to serve as Principal Investigators (PIs) for this funding opportunity, but they are welcome to be part of a faculty or staff member’s team.
Postdoctoral researchers are eligible to apply for this opportunity.
We invite proposals on a wide range of AI-related topics spanning education (training and teaching), research, infrastructure and resources, healthcare implementation and AI, and governance and policy. The examples below are provided to illustrate the breadth and depth of eligible project ideas. We encourage applicants to align their proposals with one or more of the following thematic areas:
AI-supported course material refinement for broader instructional use. | AI-assisted research workflow development. |
Reviewing, testing, or developing policies and practices for AI oversight and monitoring functions, including national scans of best practices, pilot efforts, use of AI in oversight, small-scale evaluations, etc. | Workshops and Training for Faculty & Staff on AI-related topics over the summer.
|
Prototyping and testing infrastructure and resources for artificial intelligence. | AI for generating synthetic data sets and masking real data. |
LLMs for interactive exploration of data sets. | Data-driven tools (including AI-based tools) for connecting potential collaborators. |
Creating workflow efficiencies using AI. | AI-based simulation training for medical decision-making. |
AI-enhanced calibration for medical equipment. | Advancing x-ray positioning and imaging annotation. |
AI in undergraduate medical training and simulation. | AI/ML in dental imaging and clinical trials. |
Bias detection in LLMs for healthcare implementation. | Comparative evaluation of LLM-powered clinical tools. |
Pilot “medbots” for administrative and clinical support roles. |
