F Stop Society

Society Debut: A Media Arts Collection

November 28th to December 9th

The F-Stop Society is a new student-lead photography and video organization, which was formed at the beginning of the Fall 2011 semester.  “Society Debut” was the group’s first large-scale project, which gave its members a hands-on opportunity to experience the process of creating, organizing, installing and promoting a gallery exhibition. The F-Stop Society strives to promote personal growth through peer cooperation and collaborative endeavor.

Faculty Exhibition

October 28th to November 11th

The School of Art & Art History serves approximately 400 undergraduate and graduate level students in art history, media (photography, film & video), studio (painting, printmaking, ceramics & sculpture) and visual communication. The school’s faculty consists of 28 full-time artists, designers and scholars. The biennial OU School of Art & Art History Faculty Exhibition allows students as well as the community a chance to familiarize themselves with the nature of the work being done by the instructors.

Satan's Camaro

Justin Strom & Lenore Thomas

September 28th to October 21st

Justin Strom and Lenore Thomas combine their individual ideas and aesthetics to create collaborative work as Satan’s Camaro. The artists’ say their cooperation allows them to “make work that, at its most basic, involves opposites. We often speak of the work in extremes like Slayer versus My Little Pony as a means to explain how we are thinking when we create these pieces.” Music, art, vintage cars as well as popular culture are just a few of Satan’s Camaro’s influences. Their meshing together of ideas helps to create a collection of work that is, in the artists’ words, “Slayer meets Stereolab, Halo meets Super Mario Brothers and Skeletor meets My Little Pony.”

Sarah Schneckloth

Sarah Schneckloth

August 22nd to September 2nd

Sara Schneckloth explores contemporary drawing by incorporating a variety of media into her work. She introduces sculptural elements into her drawings blending the traditional with the experimental. Schneckloth “creates images that speak to the physical and emotional processes of remembering. The notion of the gesture factors strongly into her work, figuring as both the mark on the page and as an invitation for viewers to intimately interact with her drawings.”

Cannonball Press

Mike Houston and Martin Mazorra

January 17th to February 11th

Martin Mazorra and Mike Houston operate Brooklyn, N.Y., based Cannonball Press.  Starting in 1999 these two began producing high quality relief prints & serigraphs of their own work and others and selling them for twenty dollars a piece.   In 2004 the pair began to work on large-scale woodcuts and have travelled the world exhibiting their prints, sculptures, and installation work.  They used the verticality of our Lightwell gallery for the first exhibit of our 2011 year.
