Images of the Holy Land: Photographs by Beatriz Henderson

Images of the Holy Land

November 19 - December 5, 2013

Images of the Holy Land: Photographs by Beatriz Henderson defined her pilgrimage to Israel and Jordan. The images reflect both Henderson's devotional allegiance to her religious faith and her commitment toward creation of artistic originality. The content of the exhibit includes portraits, landscapes, and the varied architectural expressions of selected churches and markets.

Henderson died the month following her journey. Her husband, Arn, developed this exhibition as a memorial with the assistance of her principal mentor, School of Art and Art History professor Andrew L. Strout. Father Bill Pruett of St. James Catholic Church in Oklahoma City and professor Farland Stanley, director of the OU Center for Classical Archaeology and Civilizations, also assisted in the development of the project. Lauren Barnes, a student colleague of Beatriz, co-curated the exhibition alongside Mr. Henderson. Images of the Holy Land will ultimately travel to Guatemala, the home country of Beatriz.

The Zhang Sisters: Works on Paper Take a Journey from Beijing featured a collection of paintings, prints, and drawings by Chinese-born sisters Bo Chun Zhang, Hong Chun Zhang, and Ling Yan Zhang.

Sisters Ling, eldest, Bo, and Hong, twins, were born in Northeast China and raised in an artistic family. They cite their parents, retired fine arts professors from the Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts, Shenyang, China, as their initial artistic influence. Educated in China and the U.S., the Zhang sisters have been exhibiting together internationally since 2004. Each also exhibits their work independently. Hong Chun Zhang recently exhibited a collection of drawings at the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery.
