The University of Oklahoma's Comprehensive Alcohol & Other Drug Program is designed around four guiding principles: Education, Environmental Management, Enforcement (pdf), and Counseling Services. Our goal is to provide OU students with information on how to be safe. We do this through campus-wide programming, student partnerships, harm reduction strategies, and interpersonal intervention.
All students under the age of 22, including transfer students, are required to participate in both an online and in-person tailored alcohol awareness program. In addition, new member education is required for all students who would like to join a student organization or become a member of Greek Life.

In-Person Education: All first-year Residence Hall, Residential College and Commuter students are required to attend the in-person sessions which take place during Camp Crimson.
Students experiencing problematic substance use are encouraged to seek assessment, screening, and individual & group services at the University Counseling Center (UCC). The UCC Staff includes Licensed Professional Counselors with substance use counseling experience for both voluntary and mandatory visits.

Even if prescription and over-the-counter drugs are obtained legally, they can be harmful when combined with each other or with alcohol, with even small combinations proving dangerous.
If you or someone you know uses opioids, overdose is possible. OU Southwest Prevention Center facilitates provides free Naloxone (Narcan) kits. Obtaining the kit involves receiving instructions on how to use naloxone on yourself or others and requires completing a brief, anonymous survey.
Students, faculty and staff have access to on-campus and off-campus recovery support programs addressing various addiction concerns. Formed by University of Oklahoma students in recovery in August 2018, Students in Recovery is an organization providing a safe, sober environment for students currently in recovery, those supporting recovery and those who are seeking recovery at OU. We support all forms of recovery and encourage self-determination and fun in recovery by way of sober tailgates, town halls, organized community work and education about all forms of addiction.
Students in Recovery hosts weekly in-person all-recovery peer-led and supported twelve-step meetings for the OU community. The weekly meeting is held Wednesdays at 7pm in Zarrow Hall. There are no dues or fees for membership.
These welcoming meetings are a great way to continue receiving and giving Recovery support throughout the school year!
