National Science Foundation Grant Number 2331409

ART: Intensifying Translation of Research in Oklahoma (InTRO)

ART: InTRO Funding Opportunities

The ART: InTRO program at the University of Oklahoma supports researchers, departments, and students who want to translate academic discoveries into real-world impact.

On this page, you’ll find an overview of previous funding opportunities. Check back for updates on upcoming opportunities.

Each section highlights who it’s for, what it funds, and how to apply.

ART: InTRO Stimulation and Translation of Academic Research by Departments (STAR-D)

This initiative invites proposals from OU departments interested in engaging their students, faculty, and staff in translational research, incentivizing actions and celebrating outcomes.

Funding Opportunity

  • Up to four OU departments may each access up to $20,000 in direct costs.

Application Requirements

  • Eligibility: Open to OU departments with current accreditation and active faculty conducting research that is publishable and translatable to real-world applications.
Disciplines across campus are encouraged to apply. Connections to cross-campus initiatives, such as the VPRP multidisciplinary centers and institutes, are encouraged but not required.
  • Proposal Package:  Proposal Package Documents
    • Two-page proposal describing the project and goals
    • One-page support letter from Department/School Director
  •  Submission: Submission Closed.

ART: InTRO Scoping Translational Research Projects (Scoping TRP)

The ART: InTRO Scoping TRP program supports OU researchers to develop the idea for a translatable research project over a 3-month period. By seeding these projects, the ART: InTRO team incentivizes researchers who have not yet considered translating their work to interact with the OU and Oklahoma innovation ecosystem. Through these actions, OU will grow the number of researchers across campus pursuing translational research.

Program Goals

  • Support researchers in taking the next steps toward translation — building teams and finding complementary expertise.
  • Broaden participation of faculty, graduate students, and postdoctoral researchers in translational research.

Funding Opportunity

  • Up to 5 Scoping TRP teams will receive up to $15,000 (direct and indirect costs) to support translational research activities over a three-month period.

Application Requirements

  • Eligibility: Open to individuals or teams of faculty, postdocs, and graduate students.
  • Proposal Package: Proposal Package Documents
    • Two-page proposal describing the project and goals
    • One-page support letter from Department/School Director
  • Submission: Submission Closed.

ART: InTRO TRP

To increase translational research at OU, the ART: InTRO Translational Research Project (TRP) program funds projects that build on a researcher’s existing work to create tangible solutions that benefit society. By seeding innovative projects, the program strengthens connections within the OU and Oklahoma innovation ecosystem and accelerates the translation of research into societal benefit.

Funding Opportunity

  • Up to 5 TRP teams will each receive up to $75,000 in direct costs to advance translational research projects.
  • Candidate teams will seek to translate innovations with a clear and existing underlying and defined analytical and/or experimental proof of concept from across the full spectrum of research activities supported within the University of Oklahoma.

Application Requirements

  • Eligibility: Open to teams of faculty, postdocs, and graduate students.
  • Proposal Package: Proposal Package Documents
    • Two-page proposal providing summary, timeline with defined deliverables, and exit strategy. Appendices are not included in the page limit
    • One-page Department/Committee support letter
  • Submission: Submission Closed.

ART: InTRO Academy Fellow

The ART: InTRO Academy Fellowship offers OU faculty, postdoctoral researchers, and graduate students the opportunity to explore the societal and economic impact of translational research while becoming leaders in research translation across disciplines.

Program Goals

  • Develop institutional capacity and infrastructure for translational research activities in the short- and long-terms.
  • Create and continually train new cohorts of faculty, grad students and postdoctoral researchers versed in translational research.
  • Support a nationwide network of ‘ART Ambassadors’ who will be agents of change

Funding Opportunity

  • Up to 5 ART Academy Fellows will each receive a $10,000 fellowship to participate in ART: InTRO Academy sessions and conduct translational research that benefits society.

Participation Requirements

  • Academy Attendance: Fellows must attend weekly sessions during Fall and Spring semesters.
  • Ambassador Role: Fellows serve as ART Ambassadors, sharing their experiences and helping promote translational research at OU and beyond.

Application Requirements

  • Eligibility: Open to OU faculty, postdoctoral researchers, and graduate students.
  • Proposal Package: Proposal Package Documents
    • One-page proposal explaining interest and goals. Appendices are not included in the page limit
    • One-page Department/Committee support letter
  • Submission: Submission Closed.

ART: InTRO Academy Undergraduate Fellow

OU's ART: InTRO Academy provides undergraduate students with the opportunity to conduct translational research and learn the societal and economic benefits of use-inspired and translational research.

Funding Opportunity

  • Up to 10 Undergraduate Fellows will each receive a $3,000 fellowship to participate in ART: InTRO Academy sessions and conduct a translational research project.
  • Candidates must propose a project with a clear potential for societal or economic impact.
  • Open to OU undergraduate students.

Participation Requirements

  • Academy Attendance: Fellows must attend several sessions with some homework assignments.
  • Research Project: Fellows will conduct research over a three-month period with their advisor.
