OU Student Relief Fund

OU Student Relief Fund (SRF), previously known as Sooners Helping Sooners, provides assistance to students who face natural disasters, theft of personal property, death in the family, and a variety of other circumstances. OU Student Relief Fund promotes the principle of sacrificial giving and spreading compassion inwardly on OU's campus.

Eligibility & Application Process

  • Applications are accepted and awarded year-round. Please note that limited funding is available.
  • Applications must document an immediate financial hardship resulting from unforseen financial need.
  • This does NOT include expected costs, such as tuition, fees, and monthly living expenses.
  • Applicants must be currently enrolled OU Norman Campus students.
  • Applicants must complete the application in full and submit supporting documentation, as requested.
  • Applicants have not previously received a grant from the OU Student Relief Fund within the current calendar year.
  • Replacement of essential personal belongings or temporary housing needs, due to fire, theft, or natural disaster.
  • Unexpected loss of primary income due to death of immediate family.
  • Tuition and student fees.
  • Study abroad costs.
  • Internships or conferences.
  • Legal counsel or fees.

Students who need emergency financial assistance may submit an application and appropriate supporting documentation. The average grant dispersed does not typically exceed $500 (each application is reviewed on a case-by-case basis). Applicants may be contacted by a staff member to further discuss their application.

Applications are reviewed by a committee of staff. The review process typically takes two weeks from the date that the application is received, to the processing of the grant check, if applicable. Students will be notified of funding approval via their OU email. Applying does not guarantee funding will be approved.

If you have further questions about your application, process, or eligibility, please contact Student Affairs, studentaffairs@ou.edu or (405) 325-3161.
