The scholarly activity curriculum is longitudinal with experiences in each year of residency. It is designed to develop the following EBM skills: asking answerable questions, conducting an efficient literature review, critically appraising the evidence, and integrating the evidence into practice.

Application of EBM skills will occur through three required projects: an evidence-based clinical review paper in PGY1, a formal case presentation in PGY2, and an evidence-based quality improvement project in PGY3.

Scholarly activity will be a focus once monthly during Academic Afternoon (AA). Educational materials (e.g., journal articles, PowerPoint slides, handouts) will be disseminated through an email sent about 1 week before AA. Residents will be required to review this material prior to AA. EBM skill-building activities will be the focus during the first part of the academic year. Subsequently, faculty-led journal club will focus on application of EBM skills.
