Noelia Swymeler, DO, MBA

Med School: Kansas City University

Undergrad: Missouri Western State University

Family Life: I live with my husband, Derek, and we share a dog named Bean and 3 cats named Louis, Gio, and Kuzco.

Hobbies: I enjoy completing DIY projects, hiking/backpacking, camping, trying new restaurants, planning events, binge watching shows, and cooking.

Favorite things about Tulsa: The food scene is spectacular with so many local restaurants. There’s a good variety of activities to do each weekend, and the Gathering Place is such a unique spot to visit.

Reasons for choosing the program: There are many reasons why I chose this program and am grateful to now be a part of it. During my interview, I noticed how well the residents interacted with each other, and they appeared to be genuinely happy. I value diversity and knew that this program shared this same value as evident with the Minority House Staff Association that was an organization created by residents in 2020. Never having been to Tulsa before my interview, I had the opportunity to explore the area and became excited to move to a new city with great amenities. The X+Y schedule was another reason why I chose this program because I thought it provided a better work-life balance. Coming from a large medical school class, it was difficult to get to know both my peers and professors. I knew that I wanted a smaller program size where I could really get to know my co-residents and develop strong mentorships with my attendings. Without the addition of fellows, residents get priority for cases, procedures, etc. Lastly, working at a free-standing children’s hospital has provided enhanced learning opportunities as there are many surrounding rural communities that rely on this facility for its medical needs.
