This shows a sample post in D2L:

Here are my [Marielle Hoefnagels's] eight favorite websites, along with descriptions, in no particular order.

  1. Zappos: Holy cow, I love this site. I am not a shoe-hound by any stretch of the imagination, but free shipping both ways takes all the risk out of online shoe shopping. Add in a wide assortment of wide-width shoes, and you have shoe-shopping perfection.
  2. Hyperbole and a Half: I learned about this from a student. It is a beatifully illustrated blog by a woman who can make everyday experiences interesting, funny, and honest.
  3. Google Scholar: As fun as Hyperbole and a Half is, that's about how un-fun Google Scholar is. On the plus side, it's a great way to do a quick search of the scientific literature, which I often have to do while wearing my textbook-authoring hat.
  4. Netflix: Yes, they got some bad press last year, but this site accounts for a pretty major part of my leisure time. I especially love watching TV series like The Wire and Arrested Development from start to finish.
  5. OU athletics home page: I'm a big fan of OU sports, especially women's basketball, and I rely on this site for schedules and results.
  6. Pandora: I signed up for this internet radio site ages ago, forgot about it, and recently rediscovered it. I am not a huge music fan, but I do like having it playing in the background, and this is a good way to learn about new groups that are similar to the ones I already know about.
  7. Wikipedia: I know, this is an uninspired choice, and there's obviously a lot of stuff that isn't correct on it, but it's such a handy go-to site for learning about everything under the sun that I couldn't leave it off.
  8. Project Gutenberg: Maybe I'm just dense, but I have a hard time finding free books for the iPad in the iBooks store. So I root around at Project Gutenberg to see what's out of copyright, and then enter the title into iBooks. (If you know a better way, please let me know!)
