The OU EM residency, which is the only allopathic Emergency Medicine training program in Oklahoma, is comprised of 24 residents and a devoted faculty who are experts in the field of Emergency Medicine including specialization in EMS, Ultrasound, and Disaster Medicine. Residents are based at Hillcrest Medical Center, but also rotate in the ED and on off-service rotations at St. John Medical Center and at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa.
The size of Tulsa and the ease of commuting mean that all three Tulsa hospitals are convenient to the OU medical campus, and inclusion of three hospitals affords the residents chances to rotate on specialized services emphasized at a particular institution (e.g., Burn Center, Trauma Center).
OUDEM’s resources are concentrated on the preparation of our EM specialists-in-training for careers in the ED. The emphasis on residents as a focal point of OUDEM activities is found within each Section’s activities. In every endeavor of OUDEM the faculty aim to involve the residents.
