CONTACTING THE OU POLICE DEPARTMENT
EMERGENCY TELEPHONE NUMBER DIAL 911
The University has designated a single number to be used for reporting all emergencies. This number is
monitored continually by trained University Police communications officers. This number should be used ONLY to report circumstances where an immediate response by police and/or other public safety personnel is required.
The EMERGENCY NUMBER is 9-1-1 from any campus
telephone.
DO NOT try to handle an emergency alone! Obtain
professional assistance:
- Call the EMERGENCY NUMBER (9-1-1).
- Explain to the dispatcher what has occurred and
what assistance is needed.
- DO NOT hang up until released by the officer taking your call. Further information may be needed in order to assure that the appropriate response is sent. Please follow any instructions the dispatcher may give you.
EMERGENCY TELEPHONES
"Emergency Telephones" have been installed at various outdoor locations around the campus to provide a readily accessible public means of contacting the University Police dispatcher directly.
Each of these Emergency Telephones is identified with a blue sign reading "EMERGENCY" and a blue light. These special telephones may be used to request services or assistance from police personnel or to obtain other information or assistance as needed.
No coin or dialing is necessary; simply press the button or open the cabinet and lift the handset.
